We are always looking for volunteers for Welcome Furoshiki, who have lived in Japan for at least one year and who genuinely enjoy and appreciate Japan.
Additional qualifications to become a Representative include: the ability to network and to listen (social skills); comfortable with finding addresses in the areas in which a Representative lives, willingness to learn many things about life in Japan and a commitment to attend Welcome Furoshiki meetings about every six weeks, except during the summer. And, of course, a Representative must have a genuine passion to support and welcome newcomers.
Process for Becoming a Welcome Furoshiki Representative:
1) Call or e-mail Welcome Furoshiki and state your interest to become a Representative and area in which you live.
2) One of the directors will contact you to set up a time to talk about how the service operates, requirements for Representatives, safety and details of our "Appreciation System".
3) Any volunteer will probably meet two to three people before appointment as a Representative
4) Volunteers will sign a "Commitment" agreement.
5) A Representative is monitored to assure that newcomers are pleased with the visit.
